Open database is now a fact!

January 6, 2018 by ST Graveyard

We have a pretty big announcement to make today. Our December update has been delayed a bit, but it was hopefully worth the wait. We have been talking about this in the past, but as of today, a first part of the Atari Legend project has gone open source. From now on, any developer who is interested can download the full database (except the sensitive user related data) and all the screenshots, boxscans and other graphics used for their own project.

You can find the download link at the front page in the 'Open Database' tile. We are planning a full blown API this year, but this will take some more work. We will also be updating our database structure this year, to further enhance the project so it will be able to handle all the different versions of game releases ever made. That is for later ;-) A full technical analysis of the DB structure will be made available in the future. Should you be interested in using it and have questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

So this also means that all user contributions from now on will be shared with the rest of the world. All your efforts will never be lost!

Also in this months release, we have drastically updated our CSS files, so if there are layout glitches on your system (wether it is a pc, tablet or phone), let us know.

NoExtra releases new Extra volumes

December 16, 2017 by Brume

News illustration image We are a bit late on this news (the site wasn't available in recent days), but NoExtra team released three new compilations. It seems they are the last productions of the group, since the leader Zorro2 decided to leave the team to join another very famous group. Sad news...
We would like to send a huge thank to NoExtra for providing us so much quality intros for over 13 years. Without NoExtra, Atari Legend would probably not be there.
We will miss you, guys.

Finally, please note that one of the three compilations contains the famous megademo Bluesie, which never came out because never finished. So here the final release. Congratulations to Maartau for spending so much time on it and doing something functional.

Take a look at these incredible pictures of Athanor 2

November 18, 2017 by Brume

News illustration image This is an Atari Legend exclusive! We've received many pictures of Athanor 2, an incredible game developed by Eric Safar. Eric has always been an Atari ST lover and he took part to the development of many commercial games such as Ranx or Les Portes Du Temps.
Now, he is back with the sequel of Athanor 1, a game released in 2014 for the Amstrad CPC and Oric and later for the C64. The game was published in a brilliant package with some physical clues, and so will be this sequel: Eric told us the final packaging will be printed very soon and will even contain some clues that help to finish the game.
Athanor 2 is almost finished on Amstrad CPC. But... what's about the Atari ST and Amiga versions, so? These versions are still in progress, but the pictures do suggest an exceptional adventure game. They used various rendering methods, that's why you'll find some duplicates on the detail page.
Angel Bautista, who is a talented illustrator, designed all pictures and he drawn the cover. Fra of Mandarine (thanks Lotek Style for the info) also worked on the Atari version.
Please note all pictures displayed here are coming from the Atari ST version (we don't have info about the Amiga version). They are 256 x 144, to leave room for the UI.

Thanks Eric for the pictures! Hope to spread more info of the development of the game very soon Smiley

DEC0DE 1.1 is out!

November 14, 2017 by Brume

News illustration image A new version of DEC0DE has been released. This decryption tool is now able to decode 16 protections (including Rob Northen Copylock System series 1 & 2). This software is coded by Orion of the Replicants with the help of Maartau of Atari Legend. If you don't know it, here is a brief description:

Remove encryption systems used to protect Atari ST programs. On the Atari ST, encryption systems were often used to protect programs against hacking, reverse-engineering or ripping: the original program was encrypted and transformed into a self-decrypting program. These protections were developed by the game industry or by the sceners themselves. Most popular protections are Copylock by Rob Northen, Anti-bitos by Illegal, Cooper by Cameo...DEC0DE merely removes such protections, thus enabling to restore the original unprotected programs. If a protected program crashes under your emulator or on your machine, if it contains music, a picture or a scrolltext you want to rip, or if it is a software you want to hack, then DEC0DE is made for you.

DEC0DE runs on the Atari ST, Windows, macOS and Linux machines. Sources are also available. You can download the archive here

Audio Sculpture v1.5 beta is available

November 4, 2017 by Brume

News illustration image Version 1.5 of the famous soundtracker Audio Scultpure is now available! This is the last version known of the soundtracker made by SYNC and it was cracked by.... SYNC!
It also features a new intro, with artwork by Bluestar and music by 7an.

Troed, who cracked and patched the tool, did a great job on this, because it has one of the weirdest types of protection ever seen on Atari ST. You can follow a (long) discussion on Atari-Forum.
Also please note this version works on ST/STE/Mega STE and TT machines in both modes (mono or color). Last but not least, it contains some cheat codes (indeed!).

Don't hesitate to visit Demozoo to download the file. Hey SYNC, great release and nice to see you back in the world of cracking Smiley

Random review

Some of you might wonder why I'm actually reviewing this little game, since it is clearly an amateuristic effort ... Well to be honest, I have a bet running with fellow Atari Legend mate Marcer. Do you think I can fill a complete page by just writing about this game?

Did you know?

The creator of the ST was a guy named Shiraz Shivji, who was also the main engineer behind the Commodore 64.
