This game is dated, no doubt about it. But hey, if you wanted great graphics, you wouldn't be reading this review in the first place. It's all fun to look at. This is where it all started. The graphics aren't bad, but there isn't much variation. We get some different backgrounds, some changing obstacles...and that's about it. Remember that this game was originally created for the Commodore 64!

As a big Star Wars fan I thought it was about time to check this Atari classic out and give it a go. This game is a bit before my time, I suppose. It was the first Star Wars game ever to grace the screen. Originally created by Atari Inc. for the arcade industry (with loads of success) it was later on converted to the home market. The Atari 2600 being one of the first machines for it's release. Today this game has the status of being a cult classic. My first experience into the Star Wars games was the PC version of "X-Wing". One of the best space combat sims I've ever played. So I wasn't really expecting much from this title. But admittedly, I was pleasantly surprised.

I always thought I'd seen about everything on the ST games scene. As usual, I was wrong. I've been playing games on this system since 1986, been buying magazines since 1992, yet had never heard of a game called "Ork". So when I read about it a few weeks ago on the net, I thought I'd check it out. I've been hooked ever since. Playing this little gem every time I found some free time. At the moment I'm completely stuck, still I think I've seen enough to help immortalize this title with a review. It was released by Psygnosis, a company that was responsible for some of the best games on the ST. I was (and still am) impressed by this "hidden treasure"...

This is a really good game. You either have the option to take on the challenge against the computer, or another person can join in the 2 player modus. The latter one is especially fun. The game offers a wide variety of moves, which are easy to learn. Especially the "Death Sword" move, when properly executed, is very cool. Before going into battle, you can also enter a practice mode to get the hang of it.

As you might have already noticed, I love this game. To me, there isn't a better vertical shooter game made since its release. Like other Bitmap games, it laid new standards for other companies to break. Some came close (Thalion's "Wings of Death", but in my opinion, it hasn't been beaten. The great gameplay, the superb power ups and the cool final stage bosses make this a dream to play. A must! Xenon 2 remains the king of the shoot 'em up genre, shining high on its throne!
