Brimstone: another game found in the attic

April 10, 2007 by Brume

News illustration image Long time ago we received a very rare game from Belboz (pm: thank you for the disk!).
The game is named Brimstone - The Dream Of Gawain. It's one of the first games made on Atari ST. It belongs to the Broderbund/Synaps adventure serie. You play Sir Gawain, a knight of the Round Table... but maybe have you just entered into a dream-related world?

Intro of the release is signed Bod of Stax. Music is composed by Cube of Aggression.
Actually, just grab the game on Brimstone page.

DemoBaseST Celebrates!

March 9, 2007 by muguk

News illustration image DemoBaseST has hit a milestone just recently. SkylineDave (the proprietor and moderator of DemoBaseST) announced the other day that he'd hit the 100 Megademos mark that are included with DemobaseST.

If you're not sure what DemoBaseST is, then it's a Windows-based front-end similar to GamebaseST but, as the name suggests, it's for viewing all those classic ST demos from the comfort of one shell.

And to top off this bit of good news, he's also released a patch to give you even MORE demos! So go visit the site, download DemobaseST and the upgrade patch, sit back and just watch some of the best demos that ever graced our lovely machine!

Take me to DemoBaseST HQ!

A little tribute page has been created for the late Andreas Wahlin (Perehelion). Please leave your memories and comments over here. It's simple, you don't need to be logged on to enter some words.

Thank you!

Sad news

March 4, 2007 by muguk

News illustration image Two bits of sad news have appeared on Atari Forum over this weekend.

1) Andreas Wahlin - a.k.a. Perihelion - was killed on February 24th 2007 by some attackers. He will be fondly remembered for his 68000 coding tutorials which had taught a lot of beginners to 68000 on the joys of coding directly with the hardware instead of via an interpreted language.

Leave your condolences message on the forum here.

2) Richard Joseph, chip music composer on many machines, including the Atari ST, passed away in France due to complications from his chemotherapy he was receiving to help his battle with lung cancer.

All within the Atari community pass on our condolences to both families of the above. You will both be missed.

The visuals aren't the best I've seen from my lovely Atari ST which isn't due to their quality but the lack of variety. The backdrops are nice but could have made better use of the palette for things like destructible blocks. Most sprites are well-drawn and detailed, especially the stripy dinos from the Prehistoric Zone.

Did you know?

The creator of the ST was a guy named Shiraz Shivji, who was also the main engineer behind the Commodore 64.
